There’s a quote out there along the lines of, “if you don’t have a plan, then you’re planning to fail”. So suppose you want to lose 10 lbs of fat and gain some muscle while you’re at it.

What do you need to do to achieve this?

Then ask yourself this: what’s the easiest, most simple thing you can do to get started?

Eat 1 more vegetable a day? Do 5 more minutes of walking? Have an abundance based mindset? The acronym KISS, (Keep It Simple Silly), applies here. Seriously!!!

What happens when you get good at one simple thing, then another, then another? Soon you’re doing a whole bunch of simple things that altogether make you AWESOME!!

Cardio isn’t bad! Yep, I said it. The thing that isn’t terribly helpful, however, is frequent (more than 2-3 times/week)(MY recommendation), extended (more than 45 min to an hour), moderate to intense endurance exercise. Why not?

Because it’s a form of chronic stress. And what does chronic stress do? Increases cortisol, decreases testosterone, and is just plain no good. There is lots of research that has come out about this topic. Here’s an article from 2013 that discusses more in detail.

When someone compliments you, accept it and recognize the hard work you’re doing. Don’t self-deprecate here, even for humor. What you say about yourself goes into your mind and becomes your thoughts. Your thoughts become YOUR reality. So just say “Thanks!”

Mindset Mondays – The ‘Fit Person’ Mentality

So I’ve asked you what your goals are and how to plan around any potential obstacles. Another thing to ask yourself is, “How would someone who has achieved what I want to achieve behave?”

Most people aren’t ‘fit’ or ‘strong’ by accident. They PLANNED for it. They constantly practice it. They plan their workouts, their meals, and think good thoughts.

I’m not saying to pretend to be something you’re not. However, if you want to become an Engineer, go to school for Engineering.

If you want to lose 20lbs of fat and gain some muscle, start learning about exercise and nutrition. Start thinking about what you need to go to get there. Tell yourself, “I’m a [insert goal here] person in training. I can do this.”

Start. Now. Time = Life. Don’t wait until ‘tomorrow’. Live your life.
